Virtual Nature-Based & Experiential Therapy for Colorado Youth and Adults Practice Policies

I’m so glad you’re here. At Wandering Counseling, I offer virtual counseling designed to help you find clarity, calm, and resilience in your everyday life.

This mental health practice policy outlines important information to help you understand how Wandering Counseling’s virtual services work — so you can feel confident and informed before getting started.

Scheduling and Appointments

Booking Sessions: You can easily book and manage your appointments through our secure online platform.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes and scheduled in advance.

You may schedule sessions through:

  • Headway (for insurance-based clients)
  • Direct communication (for consultation or private arrangements)

I do my best to maintain consistent availability, and I encourage clients to book sessions ahead of time to ensure continuity.

Expert Mental Health Counseling

Receive personalized guidance for optimum mental well-being.

I emphasize the importance of caring for your mental health and help you navigate life’s challenges.

Services & Format

Wandering Counseling currently offers:

  • Virtual therapy for teens (13+) and adults across Colorado
  • Limited walk-and-talk sessions in Fairplay, Summit County, and Buena Vista (based on fit and availability)

Virtual sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

Walk-and-talk sessions take place in public outdoor settings and require additional consent due to limits of privacy and confidentiality.

Cancellations & No-Shows

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours notice.

  • Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) and no-shows may be subject to a fee.
  • Insurance does not cover missed sessions.

I understand that life happens—please communicate when possible.

Fees & Insurance

Wandering Counseling works with:

  • Headway (for insurance billing and claims)
  • Medicaid (credentialing in progress)

If you are using insurance through Headway, they will manage billing, copays, and claims directly.

For any private pay arrangements, fees will be discussed in advance.

Self-Pay Rates

For clients not using insurance, the following self-pay rates apply:

  • 53–60 minute session: $119
  • 45–52 minute session: $105
  • 30 minute session: $75

Full sessions (53–60 minutes) are the standard and recommended format for most clients. Shorter sessions may be used for check-ins, scheduling needs, or when clinically appropriate.

Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise arranged.

Communication Between Sessions

Communication outside of sessions is limited to:

  • Scheduling or rescheduling
  • Brief check-ins

Email and phone are not intended for therapeutic conversations.

If you need more support, we can schedule an additional session.

Emergencies

Wandering Counseling does not provide crisis or emergency services.

If you are in crisis, please contact:

  • 911
  • Go to your nearest emergency room
  • Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)

Your safety is the top priority.

🌿 Walk & Talk Therapy (if applicable)

Walk-and-talk sessions are offered on a limited basis and may be a good fit for clients who prefer movement and outdoor settings.

Please note:

  • Sessions take place in public spaces
  • Confidentiality cannot be fully guaranteed
  • Weather and environment may impact sessions
  • A virtual backup option will always be available

Additional consent will be reviewed prior to beginning outdoor sessions.

Confidentiality

Your privacy is very important.

All services are confidential except in the following situations:

  • Risk of harm to yourself or others
  • Suspected abuse or neglect (mandated reporting)
  • Legal requirements (court orders, subpoenas)

I will always do my best to discuss these situations with you when possible.

Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)

If you are a private pay client, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” outlining the expected cost of services.

Please let me know if you would like one provided.

🌱 A Final Note

Therapy is a collaborative process. My role is to support, guide, and provide tools—but meaningful change also comes from your willingness to engage and show up for yourself.

You don’t have to do this alone.
